The hike begins in the traditional agricultural village of Salakos, located at the foothills of Mount Profitis Ilias and close to the sea. After meeting your certified hiking leader and receiving a short briefing, you’ll set off along well-maintained paths that gradually ascend through a dense forest.
Most of the route is shaded by ilex, pine, and cypress trees, creating a comfortable environment even during warmer months. The gentle incline makes this hike suitable for all fitness levels, including children, while still offering rewarding scenery and a sense of achievement.
As you climb, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the Aegean Sea, the Turkish coastline, and nearby islands. Even experienced hikers appreciate this tour for its combination of fresh mountain air, peaceful forest surroundings, and impressive panoramas.
At the meadow, you’ll relax in a quiet picnic area surrounded by pine forest before visiting the iconic Italian-era buildings Elafos and Elafina, constructed in 1929 and 1932. Their Alpine-style architecture is a surprising and unique sight on a Greek island. You’ll also see the elegant Villa de Vecchi and visit the Byzantine church of Profitis Ilias.
After a short break and a traditional snack, you’ll begin the descent back to Salakos. With its gentle terrain, rich history, and lush scenery, this is one of the easier hiking tours we offer — a perfect introduction to hiking on Rhodes and an ideal way to experience the island away from busy tourist areas. Throughout the tour, your hiking leader ensures a comfortable pace, shares local insights, and captures photos that are included.
