Discover one of Naxos' most fascinating inland routes on a beautiful hiking experience through the countryside, where marble paths, flowing waters, and centuries of history come together. The hike begins in the wonderful village of Kourounochori, home to the Fragkopoulos-Dellarocca Tower, a vivid reminder of the island's Latin past. From here, we follow a mix of marble-paved pathways, dirt roads, and narrow trails, crossing the open countryside and cultivated fields.
Passing through the small and peaceful village of Myloi, the route leads us to Kouroi Statues of Flerio, one of the island's most iconic archaeological landmarks. These monumental, incomplete marble figures from the 6th century BC still lie in the ancient quarry where they were first carved, offering a fascinating glimpse into ancient craftsmanship. Being among these massive statues makes it really easy to imagine the talent and ambition of the ancient sculptors.
As the path descends, it brings you into the heart of the Potamia Valley, a green, water-rich oasis made up of Ano, Mesi, and Kato Potamia. Walking alongside a quiet river, you'll encounter remnants of old stone watermills and small lakes surrounded by lush vegetation, highlighting the island's most fertile landscapes.
Along the way, we come across the Kokkos Tower, a 17th-century Venetian tower house that stands quietly amid orchards and flowing waters.
Throughout your hike, your guide will share local myths, history, and island traditions, inviting you into everyday life on Naxos.
