"Rafting in Arachthos" is a unique rafting experience, an easy and beautiful descent, ideal for beginners & kids with some light waves, repeated turns and 2nd to 3rd-degree crossings.
We start our descent at the bridge of Politsa in Abelochori and end in the recently reconstructed bridge of Plaka*. The entrance to the narrow canyon of Arachtos is truly imposing, with the highest pitch reaching 700m. We see many springs coming out of the rocks from chinks, and rare birds nesting in the remote rocks of the canyon.
* About the bridge of Plaka:
The largest one-arch bridge of the Balkans and the 3rd in Europe. It was built in 1866 - with a width of 40 meters and a height of 19 meters - and was a point of attraction for the whole area. It collapsed in January 2015 when torrential rains swelled and accelerated the flow of Arachthos. A major reconstruction project was set in place and, with the same techniques used by the original builders, pieces "rescued" and stones of the area it has been fully rebuilt!
