Inland hike among picturesque villages - Kouroi statues, Apano Kastro
4,5 hrs
€125Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is more than just a beautiful summer destination. It's a place with a rich history, vibrant culture, and an authentic charm that captivates you from the moment you arrive! Last week, we had the opportunity to get to know the heart of Naxos firsthand, on a journey filled with activities, flavors, and encounters with the people who make this island so special. What did we discover, and what did the locals tell us? Find out in today's #MeetTheLocals!
Authentic People, Authentic Flavors:
The locals shared their love for their island and their way of life, which is based not only on tourism but also on agriculture and farming. We met the cheesemakers and tasted the unique cheeses of Naxos, such as the "krasato arseniko" Naxos cheese, which Anastasia, the manager of Trekking Hellas Naxos, highlights for its special flavor.
Hiking, Kayaking, and Cooking with Trekking Hellas Naxos:
Trekking Hellas Naxos welcomed us warmly and led us on an exploration of Naxos through unique experiences. We hiked trails with breathtaking views where the blue of the sea seemed to merge with the sky, kayaked in emerald waters and the unique Rina Cave, and learned the secrets of Naxian cuisine in a delightful cooking class.
A Hidden Paradise:
One of the most magical moments of our trip was the discovery of an earthly paradise at the end of a hike. A lush green landscape with a river, a sight not often found on the "dry" islands of the Cyclades. The air was suddenly cooler, the shade abundant, and the vegetation rich. We hiked alongside abandoned watermills, lagoons, and small waterfalls, while crabs and turtles found their way to the water's edge next to shrubs, junipers, and plane trees. Anastasia confided that this is her favorite spot on the island, and we couldn't agree more.
Naxos enchanted us with its authenticity, its hospitable people, and the unique experiences it offers. We look forward to returning soon!
