Our trip’s main destination is the beautiful Falakro Mountain, one of the most significant mountains in northern Greece, known for its impressive peaks, alpine landscapes and rich natural beauty. Before reaching it, on the first day we explore the area around the Aggitis River and its gorge, near Alistratis Cave. The gorge, also known as “Vraous”, was formed by the erosion of limestone rocks by the river’s waters, creating steep rocky walls and a striking natural landscape. The area is also connected to mythology, as it is believed that the Gate of Hades was located here, giving the landscape a unique and mysterious atmosphere.
On the second day, we head to Falakro, starting from the small village of Volakas, where we spend the night. The mountain is known for its wild nature, large elevation differences and high peaks, with the highest being Prophet Elias at 2,232 meters.
The area is part of the Natura 2000 network and is home to a wide variety of plants and animals, as well as unique alpine and subalpine landscapes. The ascent and the panoramic views from the mountain offer unforgettable moments and remarkable scenery.
The trip to Falakro and Aggitis is a unique experience that combines natural beauty, geological interest and mythological elements, creating a truly memorable adventure.
